AndrÉ's Origins

While André didn't get bitten by a radioactive spider, nor struck by lightning, and he's pretty sure he's not the child of The Scarlet Witch, he's not just your geeky Canuck. However, the jury is out on the last one since he doesn't know his biological family.

He is a mixed-race actor, writer, cosplayer, digital artist, model, and advocate – with a knack for turning everyday challenges into epic adventures and a sense of humour that keeps everyone on their toes, wheels or whatever the case. He entered the world against the odds in the bustling metropolis of Toronto.

Not long after, he began to stoke the fires of creativity and resilience. It was a quiet yet powerful testament to the determination that would become his trademark.
Andre Campbell, Cambridge Ontario, September, 2024
Campbell's formative years, coupled with the desire to connect and express creatively, also strengthened his love for writing, acting, gaming, and drawing, helping him realize that just because he doesn't have all the setups and resources doesn't mean he's incapable.

Audiobooks, theatre (especially musicals such as Jonathan Larson's), DC and Marvel comics, and the Harry Potter franchise all played a part in this realization. Furthermore, Larson's story inspired André and although the two never met, the theatre legend's musicals mirrored Campbell's deep desire for connection and community – a spark that later found its place through cosplay.

The wild ride that is André's life has always been about connection and finding happiness – with amplifying overlooked voices and advocating for diversity and accessibility being a natural by-product.
Campbell has appeared as a zombie in the horror comedy short Prom of the Dead, and himself in the multi-award-winning documentary Heroes Manufactured, and Every Voice Matters (2019), a documentary short by the Youth Crime Prevention Council of Waterloo Region. He also appeared in the documentary Every Day's Little Pleasures and a commercial for United Way during his younger years. These projects offered glimpses of him, but they are just a part of his professional journey.

In addition to these projects, André took part in the 2026 Easterseals Disability Film Challenge where he and his friends made a dramedy short called Omega (wrote, filmed and edited) in only 5 days.
With his first comic series, Starkeeper, first published by Wooly's Wagon in 2013 and re- published by Studiocomix Press in 2016. André introduces readers to a universe where cosmic mysteries intersect with the inner battles we all face – saving the galaxy one adventure at a time. It's a sci-fi adventure where hope and humanity are two of the most powerful forces in the galaxy.

He and his writing partner also wrote the holiday feature The Miffletoe Connection, featuring a gay, interabled couple. In 2026, the screenplay advanced from 250 Quarter-Finalists to become one of 100 Semi-Finalists in the Emerging Screenwriters Drama Screenplay Competition, whose Top 10 scripts are considered for the International Screenwriters' Association's (ISA) Development Slate. It was also one of 250 Quarter-Finalists in the Emerging Screenwriters Family & Holiday Screenplay Competition, now in its fourth year, and one of 268 Quarter-Finalists in Creative Screenwriting's Unique Voices Screenplay Competition, an international program the ISA has run since 2018.

During his journey, André also had the opportunity to meet Felicia Day, Mark Meer and Tolga Safer – three people he has looked up to since his youth. Mark Meer and Mitch Markowitz even asked André to illustrate prints of them as their characters: Commander Shepard from Mass Effect and Super Hippy from The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, respectively.
He started giving workshops in 2014 about topics like inclusion, identity, disability, and intersectionality for Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region, and for other places, including the YMCA, public libraries, schools, and Family & Children's Services of the Waterloo Region, helping people reshape perspectives, while blending art, adventure, and advocacy for a more inclusive future. He was on panels for Heroes Manufactured and Green Light Arts' This is the Point. The latter's panel discussed navigating relationships when you have a disability. In 2024, he served on the Region of Waterloo's Upstream Fund committee, helping select applications for funding.

That same drive for representation carries into his cosplay and modelling work. André has modelled for photoshoots both related to and separate from the Comic-Con community, in which he remains active, with his main cosplays being the Wally West version of The Flash and Miles Morales' Spider-Man. Campbell appeared as The Flash in 2019 for Easter Seals Canada, Cosplay for a Cause, for Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospitals' Capes for Kids fundraiser in 2023, alongside the Toronto Raptors 905 (the feeder team to the Toronto Raptors), and during Halloween 2025, he appeared as Miles Morales, along with a few friends and fellow cosplayers, in Hamilton, Ontario, for Treat Accessibly – a national, family-founded movement helping Canadians make Halloween accessible for children with any disability at every home.

These modelling experiences, along with creating content with his best friend, writing partner, fellow cosplayer, and co-host Brandon as the Scarlet Nerds, led to Warner Bros. inviting him to join a social media campaign cosplaying The Flash for DC FanDome in 2020. The company captioned one of their videos with, "the Speed Force is for everyone around the world. Including cats." This statement resonated deeply with Campbell, reflecting the inclusive themes of the comics he loved as a kid.

His work breaks barriers, challenges the status quo, and strives to ensure everyone finds a place – or that new places are built for those who need them.
Whether it's relaxing, hanging out with friends, gaming, or reading audiobooks and comics, André loves diving into creativity.

From cosplaying and acting to advocating for inclusion and inspiring others through his art, he continues to pave the way forward.

Like many people, André experiences a lot of ups and downs, so he often pivots. One example of this is working to create his own mobility device so he can be more independent, instead of staying knocked down by red tape.

His story is one of ongoing evolution – an adventure that keeps unfolding!
